Anglo Saxon Strap End

Thomas Class A Type 1

Bronze/Copper Alloy - blue/green patina

3.6 cm x 0.9 cm

Two rivet holes - head of one rivet in place - other hole damaged in antiquity and rivet missing

Palmette at proximal

Centre panel edged by boxed edge design - centre Trewhiddle type design in niello now degraded

Zoomorphic terminal - head has triangular ears and horns with some detail picked out with niello inlay - eyes surrounded by semi-circle and eyes picked out in niello

Between forehead and horn is a triangular recess which may have held niello or a stone
